Education has a huge impact on me and my thoughts on the government. Through education, one is likely to gain civic skills and political knowledge which trigger one’s participation in political activities. Education acts as a pathway for the people. It is through education that the youth can make the right choices and pursue their interests. Similarly, education enables people to set their goals and work towards achieving them.
Through education, I can know about bills and laws which the legislators have passed and those which are pending. Education also equips one with knowledge concerning the various ways that one can become an active participant in the government with the ultimate goal of promoting social change through active participation in policymaking. According to Safari et al. (2021), providing access to information regarding health policies and the importance of participating in health policy encourages greater nursing participation in health policymaking. Education enables the people to know about their rights, especially on health matters thereby facilitating political behavior.
Being an active participant in government is likely to improve my life and those of my loved ones. I live in Orange County California where I can practice my civic right by writing an email to the governor or the senator to express my voice regarding different issues such as health or education. Besides writing, I book an appointment in the office of any legislator in the State to advocate for change among the citizens. As a nursing professional, I can utilize other platforms like professional nursing organizations where I can lobby and seek support from other professionals and the organization’s leadership to push for reforms that would see a positive transformation in the lives of the citizens (Chiu et al., 2021). Some of the policy issues that can be advocated through the nursing organizations include nursing education and work environment which directly relate to the process of service provision to the populations.
