Tests and Measurements Research Paper Guidelines
The project for this course is a written paper that provides and in-depth review and critique of a published test or assessment. Your paper should address all guidelines for critiquing a psychological test that are covered on pages 2 and 3 below. Please organize your paper according to GUIDELINES FOR CRITIQUING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST. |
· Avoid simply repeating the articles in summary form; use them within the text of your paper to illustrate important points.
· The body of your paper is to be 8-12 pages in length (depending on your assessment and the depth of information collected). Note: The body of your paper does not include, title page, reference page or abstract. It must be typed, double spaced, with one-inch margins, and fully referenced in the format specified in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological · The text of your paper should be preceded by an abstract (about 100 words) that summarizes the key points in the paper (i.e., a statement of the problem, major findings, and conclusions). · The paper will be graded on content, organization, and writing mechanics and style. The following rubric will be used to assign points associated with each main topic. Cover page: 5 points Abstract and Introduction: 50 points Critique (using guidelines): 140 points Summary/Conclusion: 45 points References: 10 points PowerPoint Presentation: 50 points Total : 300 points Association (see http://www.apastyle.org/index.aspx).

Guidelines for Critiquing and Psychological Test (pgs 489-489 of text questions are below)

General Descriptive Information
· What is the title of the test?
· Who is the author of the test?
· Who published the test, and when was it published? Include the cost off the test, information about answer sheets, manual, scoring services, etc.
· How long does it take to administer the test?
· How much does it cost to purchase the test?
· Is the test proprietary or non-proprietary?
Purpose and Nature of the Test
· What does the test measure? (Include scales)
· What does the test predict?
· What behavior does the test require the test take to perform?
· What population was the test designed for (Ex. Age, type per person)?
· What is the nature of the test? (For Example, maximal performance, behavior observation, self-report, standardized or non-standardized, objective or subjective?)
· What is the format of the test? (For example, paper and pencil or computerized? Multiple choice or true/false?)
Practical Evaluation
· Is the test manual comprehensive? Does it include information on how the test was constructed, its reliability and validity, composition of norm groups, and is it easy to read?
· Is the test easy or difficult to administer?
· How clear are the administration directions?
· How clear are the scoring procedures?
· What qualifications and training does a test administrator need to have?
· Does the test have face validity?
Technical Evaluation
· Is there a norm group?
· Who comprises the norm group?
· What types of norms are there? (For example- percentiles, standard scores?)
· How was the norm group selected?
· Are there subgroup norms (for example, by age, gender, region, occupation and so on?)
· What is the estimate of the test’s reliability?
· How was the reliability determined?
· What is the evidence for the validity of the test?
· How was the evidence for the validity gathered?
· What is the standard error of measurement?
· What are the confidence intervals?
Test Reviews
· What do reviews say are the strengths and weaknesses of the test?
· What studies that used the test as a measurement instrument have been published in peer reviewed journals?
· How did the test perform when researchers or test users, other than the test developer or publisher, used it?
