Academic and Professional Goals
As a critical care nurse, my passion for becoming a psychology nurse practitioner drove me into joining Walden University. Among all the universities that I searched, I found Walden University to be the best institution to help me meet my personal and professional goals. As indicated in Walden’s mission, the facility is committed to producing graduates who can contribute positively to impacting their professions and the community (Walden University, 2022a). My academic goal that is aligned with this mission is to become a competent psychology nurse practitioner who will utilize the skills and knowledge acquired through training to provide care that positively impacts people’s health and that of the community. Walden’s vision is to produce graduates who can apply their knowledge to promote social change initiatives and advance the common good for every individual globally (Walden University, 2022a; Walden University, 2022b). This relates to my professional goal of joining a community of 21st-century psychology nurse practitioners who can participate in social change initiatives and advocate for improvements that generate positive outcomes for all. An important goal that Walden intends to achieve is to provide a model of education that integrates critical thinking with research and discovery to enhance professional excellence (Walden University, 2022a). As a scholar-practitioner, I am committed to advancing this goal by applying evidence-based practice methods and critical thinking to conduct research with the aim of generating evidence to inform clinical practice.
Walden MSN program outcomes and perspectives adequately match my goals as a student, a professional, and a scholar-practitioner. For example, one of the university’s MSN programs is to produce graduates who can apply the knowledge that they acquire to solve specific challenges and problems that they encounter in their places of work (Walden University, 2022a). My professional and academic goals, as well as my goal of becoming a scholar-practitioner, relate to this goal in that I am determined to acquire knowledge and skills that I will use to address issues faced in practice and in social settings. Ideally, networking is important in the life of graduate students as it helps them to establish useful connections (Haruta & Tsugawa, 2021). For example, networking will help me to achieve my professional and academic goals by enabling me to connect with academic and professional networks who can help me with my academic work and transition into practice.
